In what is amounting to a spin-off from Suburban Sublime, I am now exploring the characters depicted in my prior series. This work draws inspiration from performance art and action painting… but remains photographic. Painting with light, color, gesture and time…

Hollis Hammonds and I will be having simultaneous solo exhibitions at the Museum of Art at The University of Southern Mississippi, in Hattiesburg, Miss. While the shows are separate, I’m very excited about how our work shares some visual and thematic aspects. I just delivered the work yesterday and am really happy with how it fills out the space. This work has been a long time in the making and I’m very excited about it. If you are in the vicinity, do stop by. The shows run from August 20th-September 30th. The opening is August 30th 5-7pm. I will be giving an artist talk on September 20th, 5:30-7:30.

Two of my pieces, Houseguest and The Renunciate, will appear in the exhibit PhotoSpiva 2012. This exhibit takes place in Joplin MO. For unfortunate reasons, Tuscaloosa and Joplin are “sister” cities of sorts, both having suffered deadly tornadoes last spring/summer.

My work appears on the RayKo Photo Center website as part of the SPE exhibit “Intimacy and Voyeurism: The Public/Private Divide in Photography.” The image “Houseguest” is also being used for the exhibit postcard. The exhibit was juried by Todd Hido, some one I greatly admire, so this is very meaningful!
